Paid Internship

Description

ABC Web Link is looking for an intern to fill a multi-faceted web role. You will be working closely with the owner who is an experienced senior web developer and you will gain valuable experience in all aspects of a modern webshop. This is a 12-month position with an option to renew for a further 12 months. Training is provided and no prior experience or education is required.

About ABC Web Link

ABC Web Link is a customer-oriented provider of web services located in Prince George with customers all over the province. We provide website hosting, domain name registration, as well as website design, construction, and support. Until January 2014 we existed as the web division of ABC Communications (they have since been acquired by Telus). However, though we still work very closely with ABC Communications, we are now independently owned and operated. Although ABC Web Link is small you will be working with many more ABC colleagues in the same office as well as across the province.

Responsibilities

We are a small outfit and you will be asked to perform any number of tasks as the circumstances dictate. These may include but are not limited to:
    • Website design & construction using HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and other web technology
    • Website Content Management
    • Domain Name Registration & DNS Management
    • Customer Relationship Management, Inbound sales, Needs Assessment, Quotes, & Invoicing
    • Server Administration
    • Photography
    • Graphic Design
    • Billing and Invoicing Support

Requirements

This job requires extremely strong problem-solving skills. Candidates will be judged primarily on their ability to diagnose issues, learn new technology and apply that knowledge to solving problems they have not encountered before.

A passion for using computers is a must. A career in web means you will be using a computer basically all day every day.

You will also be interacting with customers on a regular basis so good communication skills must be demonstrated. We will soon be migrating billing systems soon and handling our invoicing in-house for the first time. Experience with billing, invoicing, or bookkeeping is an asset.

Some parts of this job will utilize your artistic creativity. Any artistic experience, particularly in the visual arts, is an asset.

Training and mentorship are provided; no prior experience, or education, is required. However, past experience in technology, web, or related fields will be considered.

Schedule

This position is a three-quarter-time position for 30 hours per week worked during normal business hours. As indicated above we encourage applications from youth and post-secondary students; we are willing to work within your schedule provided we can still meet our business objectives. Depending on your performance, schedule, and the requirements of our business, available hours may be adjusted.

Remuneration & Contract

You will be compensated at a rate of $15.50/hour. The contract may be renewed for an additional 12 months if and only if both parties agree. Wages and hours for the additional 12 months will be negotiated at the completion of the initial 1 year period.

Web Developer

If you have experience in web development, ABC Web Link is looking for a web developer to fill a multi-faceted role. You will be working closely with the owner who is an experienced senior web developer. However, you will be expected to work and problem solve independently from day 1.

Requirements

This position is not an entry level position but neither are we looking for an expert. We expect that you have some experience in basic web technology. We don’t require you to be experienced in all aspects of web development but you should be able to register a domain, setup hosting, write some HTML, style it with CSS, and write some PHP (or other server side language). Most of our customers websites are built on Concrete5 or Wordpress. Knowledge of those platforms is an asset.

You will also be interacting with customers on a regular basis so good communication skills must be demonstrated. We will soon be migrating billing systems soon and handling our invoicing in-house for the first time. Experience with billing, invoicing, or bookkeeping is an asset.

Some parts of this job will utilize your artistic creativity. Any artistic experience, particularly in the visual arts, is an asset. Please provide links to websites you have created (either alone or as part of a team). Pre-built themes are fine but we will be looking for an eye to detail and a sense of taste in the final result.

Schedule

This position is a full-time position for 40 hours per week worked during normal business hours. For the right candidate we are willing to be flexible provided we can still meet our business objectives. Depending on your performance, schedule, and the requirements of our business, available hours may be adjusted.

Remuneration & Contract

The right candidate will start at $22.50/hour. Candidates with less experience may be offered a position at a lower rate. Candidates with little or no experience are encouraged to apply for the “ABC Web Link Paid Internship” position.
